Looting has been expanded upon in The Division 2, rewarding players with expected items like gear, weapons, and consumables as well as leaning harder into its RPG side with food, water, components, and new items called trinkets. As players explore the zones of the District of Columbia, they will come across seemingly meaningless items like notebooks, kid’s shoes, watches, and more. The game defines these items as trinkets, but it doesn’t explain where players can view them or what to do with them.
Where To Find Trinkets
Trinkets are random items players have a chance to find as they open and loot suitcases, backpacks, and other small containers scattered all across the open world of Washington, D.C. Once picked up, these random objects appear as a white notification in the bottom left portion of the screen and include all sorts of common, everyday objects like teddy bears, calculators, shoes, and toys to name a few.
To see what has been collected, players can open the inventory menu and switch over to the Resources tab to see all of the items and a small description in a grid-based view.
What To Do With Trinkets
Ultimately, trinkets have zero impact on player progression in The Division 2 and offer no bonuses or combat enhancements. Instead, players can sell these items to vendors in exchange for E-Credits, the game’s default currency. When speaking to a vendor at a settlement like The Theater, players should have a sell trinkets option available to them: X on PC, and L3 for consoles.
Considering how common these items are, trinkets serve as a good and consistent way to continually earn currency that can be spent on acquiring better gear from vendors or crafting new items once that feature is unlocked. There’s no reason to hang on to any of these items, as they have no other use and are different from the Food, Water, and Component resources players can donate to allied NPCs on held control points.
