Thanks to a recent interview with The Division 2’s associate creative director Chadi El-Zibaoui, new gameplay details have emerged regarding how the company plans to create a world that actually feels alive around the player as opposed to the empty streets commonly found in the first game. To help create that feeling, the studio is putting an emphasis on the survivors of this world, showing how different factions of NPCs can dynamically come together and interact with one another, sometimes with explosive results.
One example that El-Zibaoui gave was around the idea of resource control points. Considering that The Division 2 picks up seven months after the original game, the virus that was at the heart of the issue has now all but burned out, making resources the driving issue for most people. While exploring the world, players may come across different factions at these control points, fighting one another over things like food, water, or medicine. They’re completely dynamic and players can choose whether or not to help out or continue on their way. These dynamic elements are not just limited to the open world, as it was also teased that things like this could happen during campaign missions as well.
Everything Ubisoft has revealed so far seems to indicate that The Division 2 looks to hit hard out of the gate and not suffer the same problems its predecessor did when it launches early next year. Fans have already gotten a lot of post-launch details including the announcements of free DLC expansions, multiple raids being added in year 1, and even a totally revamped Dark Zone experience. Fans are clearly excited about the potential of this game as beta signups have already hit record numbers, something the first game also experienced prior to its launch.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is currently scheduled to launch on March 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
