Regarding the information, Ubisoft went on to state that the “active” users among those registered in The Division log about three hours of play per day in the title. However, the company didn’t go into detail as to how many of the action-MMO’s gamers out of the 9.5 million on record are actually considered to be routinely playing, which areas of the game are the most frequented, or what activities fans spend most of their time doing.
Nevertheless, this data for The Division certainly helps to show how lucrative the title is. After all, Ubisoft’s earnings call—as well as such disclosures from other video game companies—is essentially a breakdown of its financial statistics for investors.
Taking that into consideration, it was revealed a couple of weeks ago that The Division’s digital sales and revenue surpassed Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 by a margin of $61 million in March, which exemplified the large amounts of money to be made in the action-MMO. Of course, such a huge sum of cash, as well as the whopping number of registered users, were no doubt given a boost thanks to the game setting a sales record in its first week to become the best-selling new IP to date.
Interestingly enough, however, since The Division’s launch, the PC player base dropped 81%, which could mean that “active” users might be found more frequently on the console versions of the game. Upon release, in fact, The Division ended up becoming the most popular online Xbox One game, usurping the throne from none other than Black Ops 3.
While all of this is definitely good news for Ubisoft and its shareholders, it’s important to note that none of the aforementioned accolades implies that The Division actually has enough longevity to withstand the test of time and keep players interested. Yes, developers have planned to release the game’s next raid-like activity known as the Broken Circle Incursion soon and for free, but the real test of the title’s popularity will come once its paid expansions begin rolling out next month.
Tom Clancy’s The Division is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
