As fans have come to discover, The Division is chock full of shout-outs and nods to pop culture, with everything from Batman to even Ubisoft itself getting referenced in the wildly popular online shooter. As The Division is set in a near-picture perfect recreation of New York City, it seems as though the development team at Ubisoft was keen to fill the Big Apple with references to its storied history, including the city’s most famous sewer-dwelling denizens, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Gamers looking to discover what became of the heroes in a half-shell need only find the two Easter eggs referencing the franchise found hidden in the game. The first, originally discovered by a Reddit user during The Division’s beta, is very easy to find, but can easily be overlooked. Egg hunting gamers need only hike to the corner of 31st and 7th street, and look next to the street sign marking the intersection. There, lying on the ground, is a familiar pair of nunchucks, accompanied by a box of “Radical Pizza.” This seems to suggest that party dude Michelangelo might have gotten swept up in the pandemic, forcing the turtle to leave behind his signature nunchucks and an unfinished pizza.
The second Easter egg concerns the groups leader, Leonardo, suggesting the sword-swinging turtle befell the same fate as his brother Mikey. By going into an alley found between 45th street and 43rd, near 2nd avenue, gamers need only look at the dumpster to find a familiar set of blue katanas, resting on top of another box of Radical Pizza. The stalwart leader is nowhere to be found, suggesting the ninja turtle may have gotten caught by the virus.
It is unknown if The Division features references to machine maker Donatello or the cool but crude Raphael, but the Easter eggs found thus far suggests nothing good has become of the Turtles.
While The Division may be experiencing problems with griefing and server issues, Ubisoft has filled the game with plenty of fun Easter eggs for gamers to hunt down. Ubisoft is notorious for sneaking eggs into its games (just look at Far Cry Primal), so Tom Clancy’s The Division surely has plenty of Easter eggs that are just waiting to be found.
