In a brand new trailer for The Evil Within 2, players are introduced to Stefano Valentini, a photographer obsessed with capturing the moment of death. During their time in Union, players will not only come across Valentini’s work depicting the grisly deaths of his victims, but they’ll need to also evade and defeat many of his monsters roaming the world.
Originally serving as a war photographer, Valentini’s obsession and decent into madness took hold during an accident which cost him an eye. After returning home, Stefano became a serial killer to better control the final moments of a person’s life in order to capture it on film. The authorities eventually caught up to the twisted photographer, though he was able to escape into the STEM world of Union. From there, he treats this new world as his own canvas, bringing his dark creations to life such as the nightmare creature known as Obscura.
Bethesda is planning on making a number of changes to the upcoming sequel, including making the story a bigger part of the experience this time around. Though The Evil Within received praise from critics when it launched, one of the biggest criticisms centered on the weak story line. Without Shinji Mikami directing this follow up, Bethesda aims to continue the rock solid gameplay and pair it with a much more likable protagonist with Sebastian as well as a deeper and stronger narrative. Based on the trailers so far, it appears that Bethesda may have succeeded in this endeavor.
The Evil Within 2 launches on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
